RSS Feeds Thursday, April 03, 2014
A full field of 10 state-bred 2-year-olds -- plus two also-eligible entries -- has been entered in Saturday’s 300-yard, $50,000 New Mexico Spring Fling Stakes (R) at Sunland Park.

Bet The Sixes and Fast Copy Jess, the only previous winners in the race, drew posts 3 and 10, respectively. The 3-1 morning-line favorite, Bet The Sixes is coming off of a neck victory in the sixth of nine New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) trials on March 14.

Bet The Sixes is a gray daughter of Sixes Royal racing for J. Patricia Gonzalez, Peter B. Gallegos, and Sam Tanner. The filly is trained by Juan M. Gonzalez, and she will be ridden by Jaime Parga Leos on Saturday.

A sorrel filly by Jesse James Jr, Fast Copy Jess was acquired by Joe Dee Brooks, Ted Rushing, and Lee Lewis for $27,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs. Mike Joiner trains Fast Copy Jess, who made her career debut with a half-length win in the fourth Spring Futurity trial.

Salvador Martinez has been named to ride Fast Copy Jess in the Spring Fling.

Other contenders include Girlonthego, a daughter of Grade 3 winner Man On The Move and a $20,000 buy at the New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale. Racing for Jimmy Negrete and Jaime Vasquez, the filly ran third, two lengths behind Spring Futurity second-fastest qualifier Dungarees Version, in the fifth trial.

The New Mexico Spring Fling will be the fourth race on Sunland Park’s 11-race program. Estimated post time for the stakes is 2:10 p.m. (MDT).

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments -- That Blazin Belle (Antonio Escareno), 20-1; Blazin Version (Felipe Garcia-Luna), 6-1; Bet The Sixes (Jaime Parga-Leos), 3-1; Southern Buff (Larry Gamez), 8-1; Girlonthego (Tanner Thedford), 10-1; Mels Fire (Manuel Gutierrez), 8-1; Dungarees Six (Esgar Ramirez), 6-1; Royally Cute (Sergio Rodriguez), 15-1; Dark Moonflash (Daniel Ruiz Amaya), 5-1; Fast Copy Jess (Salvador Martinez), 4-1; AE-VGC Brroom (Tanner Thedford), 10-1; and AE-Royally Blazin (Adrian Ramos), 20-1.
