New Mexico Streaker Is Fastest Mountain Top Futurity Finalist
RSS Feeds Friday, June 04, 2010

New Mexico Streaker, an undefeated gelding by Brookstone Bay, posted the fastest qualifying time in Friday’s Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) trials for state-bred 2-year-olds at Ruidoso Downs.

Saddled by Mike Joiner and ridden by G.R. Carter Jr. for the New Mexico Streaker Partners, New Mexico Streaker won the first of seven trials by a neck while going 350 yards in :17.666. The gelding has won both of his starts, including a 300-yard state-bred maiden sprint at Sunland Park on March 2, and he has earned $15,350.

New Mexico Streaker was bred by Jerry and Sheree Cannon of Floydada, Texas, and he is one of 15 winners from 35 starters sired by Brookstone Bay, a Grade 3-winning son of First Down Dash who ran second in world champion Be A Bono’s 2005 Vessels Maturity (G1) at Los Alamitos. Now 9, Brookstone Bay has sired two crops and the earners of more than $1.6 million, including 2009 champion 2-year-old Runnning Brook Gal. He stands at JEH Stallion Station-New Mexico at Hondo, New Mexico.

New Mexico Streaker’s dam, Invisible Streaker, is a 7-year-old daughter of the Easily Smashed stallion Invisible Injun who was a finalist in the ’05 West Texas Futurity (G1) at Sunland Park. The gelding’s second dam, the Some Dasher stallion Some Streaker, has produced four starters.

The Mountain Top Futurity has been run every year since 2004, and it was known as the Ruidoso Horse Sale Futurity from its inception until last year. Trainer Blane Wood, who has three finalists in this year’s race, has won the stakes three times, most recently with Hearts Runaway two years ago.
