RSS Feeds Saturday, August 27, 2011

Full Moon Dasher, a New Mexico-bred daughter of the late Dash Ta Fame, is the 3-1 morning-line favorite in Sunday's 400-yard, $34,470 Merial Ruidoso Distaff Challenge Stakes at Ruidoso Downs.

Racing for Bielau Oaks from the barn of trainer John Stinebaugh, Full Moon Dasher drew post 5 and will be ridden by reigning AQHA champion jockey Jacky Martin. The sorrel 4-year-old mare has earned $119,246, of which $91,970 has been banked this year, and her four wins in 13 starts include the 400-yard, $85,000 Four Corners Senora Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares at SunRay Park on May 1.

The third-fastest qualifier for the Ruidoso Distaff Challenge, Full Moon Dasher is coming off of a second-place finish to second-fastest qualifier Famous Mariah in the second of two trials on August 12.

Full Moon Dasher was bred by Dosi and Norma Alvarez, and the mare is a half sister to 2009 AQHA champion aged stallion First Moonflash.

The winner of Sunday's race will earn a berth in the Grade 1, $125,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship at Los Alamitos in October.
