RSS Feeds Saturday, August 17, 2013

Handsome Jack Flash, a registered New Mexico-bred gelding racing for Debra Laney, Norma Alvarez, and Brenda Alvarez, is the fifth-fastest qualifier to the September 2, $2.6-million All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Prepped by Juan M. Gonzalez and ridden by Jaime Leos, Handsome Jack Flash ran second, a half of a length behind second-fastest qualifier Hes Relentless, in the eighth of 14 trials on Thursday. The homebred son of 2009 AQHA champion aged stallion First Moonflash covered his 440 trip in :21.209 and earned a 95 speed index.

Handsome Jack Flash was coming off of a half-length win against New Mexico-breds in the 400-yard, $409,434 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs on July 28. The gelding has won three of four starts and has banked $182,271.

Fastest qualifier Wagon Tales scored a one-length victory in the fourth of 14 heats on Friday. A bay colt by PYC Paint Your Wagon trained by Judd Kearl for owner JNB Enterprises LLC, Wagon Tales went 440 yards in :21.021 under jockey Cody Jensen.

Wagon Tales was making his first career start at Ruidoso Downs, after a spring campaign at Remington Park in which he won two of four outs, including the April 21, $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-breds. The colt also ran third in the 350-yard, $1.1-million Heritage Place Futurity (G1) on June 1.
