NM-Bred Machismo Moon Makes All American Derby Final
RSS Feeds Monday, August 21, 2017
Machismo Moon, a registered New Mexico-bred son of Heza Motor Scooter racing for Ramon Alvarez, Joe Alvarez, and Ysabel Medrano, is the seventh-fastest qualifier to the September 3, $1,365,907 All American Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Ridden by Mauro Salcedo for trainer Seth Ferguson, Machismo Moon finished second, a half of a length behind sixth-fastest qualifier Myst Fit, in the last of 13 440-yard trials on Sunday. The homebred gelding covered his quarter-mile trip in :21.624 on a sloppy and sealed track.

Machismo Moon has won three of 10 starts, all in New Mexico, and has banked $99,387. He ran second in last year’s Zia Futurity (RG1) for state-breds at Ruidoso Downs, and he was a finalist in last year’s inaugural La Fiesta Futurity at Albuquerque Downs.

Darling Farms’ Hold Air Hostage was the fastest qualifier, as the Oklahoma-bred Apollitical Jess gelding won the 11th of 13 trials by a clear 3 1/2 lengths in :21.109. Rodrigo Vallejo rode Hold Air Hostage for trainer Jimmy Padgett.

A two-time graded stakes winner, Hold Air Hostage was supplemented to the All American Derby trials for $50,000.

The winner of the All American Derby will earn a berth to the 440-yard, $750,000 Champion of Champions (G1) at Los Alamitos in December.
