NM-Bred Mad About The Moon Qualifies to $2.6-Million All American Futurity
RSS Feeds Saturday, August 16, 2014

Mad About The Moon, a registered New Mexico-bred gelding by First Moonflash racing for David G. Valdez, will make his next start in the September 1, $2.6-million All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Racing in the seventh of 14 trials on Friday, Mad About The Moon ran second, a nose behind Bodacious Eagle. The gelding, who covered his 440-yard trip in :21.442, was ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr. for trainer Gene Burden, and he posted the seventh-fastest qualifying time.

Mad About The Moon was acquired by Valdez from breeders Hughes Donaldson Horse Company for $5,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs. He has earned $6,748 from three starts, all at the current Ruidoso meet.

Fastest qualifier Exquisite Stride won the second trial on Friday. Ridden by Jimmy Brooks for owner D & S Racing LLC and trainer Eddie Willis, the California-bred Carters Cartel colt defeated Jessbye Marcy by 1 1/4 lengths in :21.313 while scoring his second victory in as many starts.

Exquisite Stride was a $20,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
