RSS Feeds Thursday, January 06, 2011
The New Mexico Horse Breeders’ Association’s annual meeting and Zia Awards banquet will be held on Thursday, January 27, at the Albuquerque Marriott Hotel at 2101 Louisiana Blvd. NE.

The day’s agenda includes a one-hour business meeting, starting at 11 a.m. (MST), followed by a 15-minute update on 2011 Ruidoso sale requirements. At 12:15, Phil Carter of the Equine Protection Fund will make a 30-minute presentation on his organization, followed by a buffet luncheon at 12:45.

Voting for trustees will begin at 1:30, followed by a panel discussion led by Brad King of Lubbock, Texas, on whether mares should be allowed to leave New Mexico for breeding purposes, with their foals still considered New Mexico-breds.

Only members whose 2011 dues have been received by January 12 will be allowed to vote their membership, in compliance with Article IV, Section 8, of the NMHBA by-laws. No mail-in ballots will be accepted.

The Zia Awards banquet starts with a no-host cocktail hour at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner and awards presentation, which honors the best New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses for 2010, at 7. This year’s keynote speaker will be TVG Network racing analyst Chris Kotulak.

To make reservations for the awards banquet, contact the NMHBA office in Albuquerque at (505) 262-0224, by January 20. For reservations at the Albuquerque Marriott, contact the hotel at (505) 881-6800 or 1-800-334-2086 and ask for the reservations department.

Note that the Marriott is a special reduced rate of $99 per night for meeting and banquet attendees. Identify yourself as an NMHBA member when you make your reservation to get the reduced rate.
