Ofashionsoutherngirl is Fastest NM State Fair Breeders’ Derby Qualifier

Rita J. Danley’s Ofashionsoutherngirl won the first of two New Mexico State Fair Breeders’ Derby (RG3) trials at The Downs at Albuquerque on Sunday, and the homebred filly is the fastest qualiier to the 400-yard, $35,000-added final on September 22.

Prepped by Fred Danley and ridden by Porfirio Cano, Ofashionsoutherngirl defeated third-fastest qualifier Jess My Time by one length in :19.613 for 400 yards. The sorrel daughter of Southern Corona earned a 91 speed index and her second win in two starts.

Ofashionsoutherngirl placed fourth in last year’s 400-yard, $82,070 New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3) at Albuquerque.

Second-fastest qualifier Easily A Gent, also owned by Rita Danley and trained by Fred Danley, won the second heat by three-quarters of a length from graded stakes winner Rex Hill. A homebred gelded son of the Naevus (TB) stallion Jacksboro, Easily A Gent has won three of 15 outs and has earned $30,374, and his race record includes a second-place finish to Heza Perfect Storm in last year’s $20,000 By By JJ Stakes (R) at Ruidoso Downs.
