On The Low Down Headlines Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity

On The Low Down, a stakes-winning chestnut son of Dome, is one of 10 New Mexico-bred juveniles entered in Saturday’s 5-furlong, $141,382 Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs.

On The Low Down is trained by Todd Fincher for owners Dale Taylor, Bobby J. McQueen, and Suzanne Kirby. The gelding has earned $76,436 from three starts, and his resume includes a 1 1/4-length victory in the April 16, 4 1/2-furlong Copper Top Futurity (R) at Sunland Park.

On The Low Down is one of two winners from as many starters foaled by Speedin Excess, an 11-year-old daughter of In Excess (IRE) who ran second in the 2008 Barretts Debutante Stakes (R) at Fairplex Park in Pomona, California. The gelding drew post 10 and will be ridden by Tracy Hebert.

Blazing Navarone, a bay son of Song Of Navarone trained by Henry Dominguez for owners Solitaire Stable and George E. Coleman, drew post 7 and will be ridden by Frank Reyes. One of four winners from five starters foaled by the winning 14-year-old Carmen’s Glory mare Carmen’s Delight, the colt has won both of his outs, and he is a half brother to Carmen’s Rocket, a gelded son of Rocket Included who ran third in the ’13 Dine Stakes (R) at SunRay Park.

Other Mountain Top Futurity contenders include Storm The Beach and Gone Shoppin. Storm The Beach, a $28,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, has won two of three starts and has banked $25,404 for his owners, John and Sue May’s J & SM Inc. of Fort Stockton, Texas, and his resume includes a third-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind On The Low Down, in the Copper Top Futurity.

Storm The Beach is the first starter foaled by the winning 8-year-old Pulpit mare Beach Club The Attila’s Storm gelding drew postt 3 and will be ridden by Enrique Gomez for trainer Fred Danley.

Gone Shoppin is a homebred Southwestern Heat filly trained by Todd Fincher for owners Bobby McQueen and Dale Taylor. Gone Shoppin is one of three starters produced by Glory Be Mine, a 10-year-old daughter of Dome and a five-time stakes winner in New Mexico from 2009-10, and she is a half sister to Blaze To Glory, the third-place finisher in the 2015 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) at Ruidoso.

Gone Shoppin made her debut with a second-place finish in the second of two Mountain Top trials on June 9. The filly drew the rail post and will be ridden by Alfredo Juarez Jr.
