One Lethal Blaze is Morning-Line Choice in Sunburst Stakes

David G. Valdez’s One Lethal Blaze is the 5-2 morning-line favorite in Saturday’s 350-yard, $85,000 Sunburst Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-old fillies at Sunland Park.

A sorrel daughter of Chicks A Blazin trained by Gene L. Burden, One Lethal Blaze is coming off of a head victory as the 6-5 choice in a 400-yard, $36,000 open-condition allowance for state-bred 3-year-old fillies on February 18. The filly was a finalist in the January 4, 400-yard Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland.

Sergio Becerra Jr. will ride One Lethal Blaze from post 9 in the Sunburst.

Other Sunburst contenders include MJ Farms’ White Wine Glass, a homebred daughter of the Swiss Yodeler (TB) stallion Swissle Stick (TB) trained by Wes Giles. White Wine Glass has won two of four starts, including a Shue Fly Stakes trial on December 13, and she has earned $22,400.

Larry Gamez has been named to ride White Wine Glass from post 5 on Saturday.

Cordova Racing LLC”s Express In, a graded stakes winning filly by Southern Corona, drew post 10 and will be ridden by Esgar Ramirez. The filly, who is trained by Melvin Cordova, scored a one-length victory in last year’s 400-yard, $62,067 New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque.

The Sunburst Stakes is one of three New Mexico-bred stakes races scheduled for Sunland Park’s 11-race program. Estimated post time for the stakes is 2:35 p.m. (MDT).

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments, morning-line odds, and also-eligible entries -- French Moonflash (Joel Aranda), 20-1; Flash Of Memories (Roberto Valero), 8-1; Speedy Habits (Efrain Vigi), 10-1; Prayz (Russell Vicchrilli)< 10-1; White Wine Glass (Larry Gamez), 7-2; AJ Hardwood (Tanner Thedford), 15-1; Penny Snatchin (Jaime Leos), 6-1; Sparkling Heart (Alonso Rivera), 8-1; One Lethal Blaze (Sergio Becerra Jr.), 5-2; Express In (Esgar Ramirez), 5-1; AE-Corona Southerndream (Esgar Ramirez), 15-1; and AE-This Chicks A Madam (Salvador Martinez), 6-1.
