Prospect To The Top Breaks Track Record in Hobbs America Futurity Trials
RSS Feeds Saturday, September 25, 2010

A sharp break from post 9 helped Prospect To The Top post a two-length victory in the last of six Hobbs America Futurity (G3) trials at Zia Park on Saturday.

Prepped by Ralph Muniz for owner Joel Tavarez, Prospect To The Top covered 400 yards in :18.967 under jockey Jacky Martin, breaking by 35/1000ths of a second the Zia Park track record established by Corona Ease in 2005. The Texas-bred colt’s win was his third in four outs, and it pushed his earnings to $60,800.

Prospect To The Top was a finalist in the September 6, $1.9-million All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs. The colt was bred by Sue H. May, and he is one of 30 winners from 58 starters sired by Coronas Prospect, a Grade 3-winning son of Corona Cartel whose four crops have earned more than $714,000.

Prospect To The Top is also one of three winners from six starters produced by the winning and Grade 3-placed Easily Smashed mare Cream To The Top. Now 20, Cream To The Top was a finalist in the 1993 Kansas (G1) and All American (G1) derbies.

Second-fastest qualifier BF Sonic Boom won the fourth heat by a neck for his third victory in seven races. The gelding was coming off of a second-place finish in the August 22, $143,215 Mile High Futurity (G3) at Arapahoe Park.

The Hobbs America Futurity has been run at Zia Park every year since 2005. Past winners include champions Gone To The Mountain, Brenda Beautiful, and First Klas Fred.
