Quatro Menudos is Fastest Shue Fly Finalist
RSS Feeds Saturday, December 18, 2010

Quatro Menudos, an undefeated 2-year-old gelding by Furyofthewind, won the first of six trials on Friday and posted the fastest qualifying time for the January 2 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park.

Saddled by Hermenegildo “Poppy” Aldavaz for owners William McCarty, P. Wood, and SW Paving and Grading Inc., Quatro Menudos covered 400 yards in :18.982 while defeating fifth-fastest qualifier Hollywood Caliente by two lengths under jockey Salvador Martinez. The gelding’s victory was his third in as many starts, and it pushed his earnings to $28,860.

A homebred, Quatro Menudos is one of 15 winners from 29 starters sired by Furyofthewind, a 7-year-old Corona Cartel stallion who won the 2006 AQHA California Derby Challenge (G3) at Los Alamitos. The gelding is also one of two starters produced by Uno Menudo, an 8-year-old daughter of Dash Ta Fame and winner of the ’04 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Quatro Menudos’ win streak includes a two-length 350-yard allowance score at Zia Park on November 20.
