Red Rock Springs Tops Rio Grande Senor Futurity Qualifiers
RSS Feeds Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Red Rock Springs, a stakes-winning colt by Your Eminence owned and trained by Tony Sedillo, tops the list of qualifiers for the August 1 Rio Grande Senor Futurity (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds at Ruidoso Downs.

Ridden by Mark Villa and sent to post as the 13-10 favorite, Red Rock Springs ran second in the second of four 5 ½-furlong trials on July 11. The colt has earned $77,952 from five starts, and his two wins include the 5-furlong $136,221 Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity (R) on June 26.

Sedillo acquired Red Rock Springs for $9,700 from breeder Michael Weatherly at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs. The colt is one of four winners from five starters foaled by the winning Golden Act mare Ocean Springs, and he is a half brother to stakes-placed runners Ocean Joe and Spring To Teras.

The $50,000-added Rio Grande Senor Futurity is one of 10 state-bred stakes to be run on Zia Festival Day, August 1, at Ruidoso Downs.
