Rex Hill Draws Post 3 for Senor Futurity

Rex Hill, a sorrel colt by Jesse James Jr racing for brothers David Hinkins and Ross Hinkins of Roosevelt, Utah, drew post 3 for Saturday's 400-yard, $50,000-added New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque.

The Senor Futurity is one of three stakes for New Mexico-bred horses scheduled for The Downs on Saturday. The others are the 400-yard, $50,000-added New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3), and the 1 1/16-mile, $50,000 New Mexico State Fair Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (R) for 3-year-olds.

Rex Hill has earned $135,930 from seven starts, and his four wins include the 350-yard, $168,000 New Mexico Breeders' Futurity (RG2) at SunRay Park on June 3, and the 300-yard, $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) at Sunland Park on April 7.

Rex Hill is trained by Dick Powell and will be ridden in the Senor Futurity by J. Martin Bourdieu.

Other contenders include Rogers Farms' Balderinas Surprise, a homebred gelding by 1998 New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity winner Rabbits Rainbow. The fastest qualifier, Balderinas Surprise is coming off of a neck victory in the second of four trials on September 7.

Fastest qualifier Smafricate will break from post 8 in the New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity.

A homebred gray filly by the Runaway Winner stallion Streakaway Cash owned by the estate of T. Jerry Lee and trained by Judy Bachicha, Smafricate broke her maiden with a neck victory in the second of three Senorita Futurity trials on September 7. Smafricate has banked $3,913 from four races.

Ms James, a Jesse James Jr filly racing for David Hinkins and Ross Hinkins, drew post 2. Ms James has won two of seven races and has earned $25,925, and she was a finalist in the June 16, $296,000 Mountain Top Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs, and the April 8, $251,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.

Lester Wright's Zenon's Star brings a two-race win streak into the New Mexico State Fair Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (R). A $3,200 buy at the 2010 New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs, Zenon's Star has won four of 13 races and has earned $145,292.

Zenon's Star is coming off of a one-length victory in the 6-furlong, $50,000 Don Juan de Onate Stakes (R) on the August 26 Lineage Day program at The Downs at Albuquerque. The gelding by the Sunday Silence stallion Fusaichi Zenon (JPN), who is trained by H. Ray Ashford Jr., was campaigned at SunRay Park last spring, where he scored a half-length victory in the 6 1/2-furlong, $75,000 Dine Stakes (R) on May 27.
