RSS Feeds Friday, May 18, 2012

Rex Hill, a sorrel colt by Jesse James Jr racing for brothers David Hinkins and Ross Hinkins, is the fastest qualifier to this year's $75,000-added New Mexico Breeders' Futurity (RG3) final at SunRay Park.

On Friday, Rex Hill won the first of four trials by 1 ¼ lengths from fourth-fastest qualifier Sisters Blazin. Ridden by Esgar Ramirez for trainer Carlos Sedillo, the colt covered 350 yards in :17.405 while scoring his second victory in three starts.

Rex Hill was bred by MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico. His dam, Tangled Vines, is a 9-year-old winning daughter of the late Dash Ta Fame.

Rex Hill's stakes resume includes a 1 1/2-length score in the April 7, $50,500 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) for state-breds at Sunland Park.

Second-fastest qualifier Sandys Jesse was a prompt even-money favorite in the fourth heat. Ridden by Ramirez for owner Jose G. Badilla Sr. and trainer Alonso Orozco, the Jesse James Jr filly went 350 yards in :17.439, and her margin of victory was 1 ¼ lengths from fifth-fastest qualifier Royal Kettle.
