RSS Feeds Tuesday, April 02, 2013
A full field of 10 state-bred 2-year-olds, plus two also-eligible entries, has been entered back in Saturday's 300-yard, $50,000-added New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) at Sunland Park.
Gary L. Thompson's Rimein N Singin, a sorrel son of Jesse James Jr, is the only previous winner in the group. The gelding made his career debut with a head victory at odds of 3-1 in a 300-yard New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) trial on March 15. Manuel Gutierrez will ride Rimein N Singin from post 2 for trainer Dick Powell.
R.K. McGehee's My Chunk Of Change drew post 1 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon. Trained by Jackie Riddle, the daughter of Jesse James Jr ran second to Rimein N Singin in her debut.
Morning-line favorite Sally Jesse Rafaela is coming off of a second-place finish to Spiced Swissle in a New Mexican Spring Futurity trial. The sorrel daughter of Jesse James Jr is trained by Juan M. Gonzalez for owner Yaneth Cabrera.
The New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes will be run as the fifth race on Sunland Park's 11-race program, and the race shares the card's spotlight with the 6-furlong, $50,000 Czaria Stakes for Thoroughbred fillies and mares. Estimated post time for the Spring Fling is 2:40 p.m. (MDT).
