Rollickin Red Risks Win Streak in NMHA Handicap

Rollickin Red will put his four-race win streak on the line in Sunday's 870-yard, $75,000 New Mexico Horsemen's Association Handicap (R) for state-breds at SunRay Park.

A sorrel 4-year-old gelding by Roll Hennessy Roll (TB) racing for the Rollickin Red Partnership and trained by Todd Fincher, Rollickin Red won all four of his starts during the 2011-12 Sunland Park meet, three of which were contested against open allowance company at the 870 distance. All told the gelding has earned $76,802 from six outs.

Rollickin Red drew post 3 in the full field of eight and will be ridden for the first time in a race by Casey Lambert.

BRT Opulence is the 5-2 morning-line favorite and one of two entries from the barn of trainer Martin Orona Sr., who co-owns the 8-year-old Real Runaway gelding with Rogelio Carrasco Sr. The winner of this race the last two years, BRT Opulence is coming off of a half-length victory in an 870-yard, $25,100 allowance race for state-breds on May 15.

Orona's other entry, Bullets Brother, has banked $439,395 from 40 races, and his 12 wins include last year's New Mexico Cup 870 Championship (R) at Zia Park. The trainer co-owns Bullets Brother with Veronica O. Gonzalez.

The New Mexico Horsemen's Association Handicap is the eighth race on SunRay Park's nine-race program on Sunday, which gets underway at 12:55 p.m. (MDT). Approximate post time for the stakes is 3:43 p.m.
