RSS Feeds Tuesday, September 06, 2011
Preliminary numbers show that the September 2-4 Ruidoso Select Quarter Horse Yearling and Broodmare Sale registered across-the-board increases.

According to the Ruidoso Horse Sale Company, a total of 310 horses sold for a $13,726,700 gross, an increase of 8 percent over the $12,689,300 gross from 361 horses sold at last year's sale.

However, this year's average price of $44,280 represented a 26-percent increase from the 2010 average of $35,150, while this year's median price of $25,000 was up 25 percent from $20,000 in 2010.

A total of 26 yearlings sold for more than $100,000, with two yearlings – both fillies – bringing more than $600,000. The high-seller, A Dash Of Sweet Heat (hip number 315), was acquired by a partnership for $650,000 from consigner Juliana Hawn Holt of Blanco, Texas.

A Dash Of Sweet Heat is a bay daughter of 1994 AQHA champion 2-year-old Mr Jess Perry and three-time AQHA champion Corona Chick. The filly is a half sister to four stakes winners, including 1997 AQHA champion 2-year-old and '98 champion 3-year-old Corona Cash and 2006 Texas Classic Futurity (G1) winner Valiant Hero.

Twenty New Mexico-bred yearlings were consigned to the Select Sale, 14 of which sold for a total of $317,000, an average of $22,643 per yearling. The top-selling New Mexico-bred, Conn Creek (hip 432), was consigned by Mac and Janis Spencer Murray's MJ Farm and acquired for $48,000 by Paul Blanchard of Albuquerque.

Conn Creek is a sorrel colt by the late Dash Ta Fame out of the graded stakes winning Lanes Leinster mare Champagne Lane. The colt is a full brother to Grade 1 winner and one-time 440-yard world-record holder Kendall Jackson, and a half brother to 2009 AQHA champion sophomore filly Alice K White.

Two New Mexico-breds, Famous Jesse James (hip 183, c, Jesse James Jr-Famous Sandy by Dash Ta Fame) and Brookstone Jo (hip 280, c, Brookstone Bay-Sheza Jo Baby Jo by Proudest Effort), sold for $30,000 each.
