Running Dragon Stays Unbeaten in Mountain Top Trials
RSS Feeds Friday, June 3, 2016

Running Dragon, a graded stakes winning daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Zulu Dragon racing for the By By JJ Partnership, remained undefeated with a 1 1/4-length victory in the last of 10 Mountain Top Futurity (RG3) trials at Ruidoso Downs on Friday.

Ridden by Jose Enrique Ortiz for trainer Juan M. Gonzalez, Running Dragon went 350 yards in :17.506 for her third win in as many starts. The filly posted the fastest qualifying time for the $364,256 final on June 18.

Running Dragon has banked $174,780, and her resume includes a half-length win in the 300-yard, $297,925 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park on April 24.

Trainer Blane Wood qualified four Mountain Top finalists, including second-fastest qualifier Copy My Daddy. Ricky Ramirez rode the Big Daddy Cartel gelding to a victory in the third heat for owners Terry and Irene Stennett, who acquired Copy My Daddy from breeder MJ Farms for $26,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale.

Copy My Daddy was making his career debut on Friday. The gelding is a half sister to 2015 champion 3-year-old filly Astica.
