Slew By You Puts Win Streak On Line in NMHBA Stakes

Slew By You, a Dash Ta Fame filly racing for Valle Guadiana Corporation, will put her three-race win streak on the line in Sunday's 400-yard, $85,000 New Mexico Horse Breeders' Association Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park.

Trained by Juan M. Gonzalez, Slew By You will be making her first start since January 5, when she scored a nose victory as the fourth-fastest qualifier in the 400-yard, $253,000 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2). The filly has won three of eight races and has earned $145,940.

Slew By You's 10 opponents include An Absolut Diamond, a homebred gelding by champion Ketel Won who ran third in the Shue Fly as the fastest qualifier for owners Sandy Farris, Marc Jungers, and Lisa McMinn; and Rex Hill, a Jesse James Jr colt who won two stakes last season for owners Ross Hinkins and David Hinkins of Roosevelt, Utah.

The NMHBA Stakes will be the fourth race on Sunland Park's 11-race program. Approximate post time for the stakes is 1:37 p.m. (MST).

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments, morning-line odds, and also-eligible (AE) entries – Runin Sixes (Jaime Leos), 6-1; Slew By You (Jesse Levario), 5-1; An Absolut Diamond (Salvador Martinez), 6-1; The Four Js (G.R. Carter Jr.), 5-1; Posies Desiria (Adrian Ramos), 20-1; One Blazin Kimbo (Esgar Ramirez), 3-1; Dashes Best (Isaias Cardenas), 20-1; ES Dove (Larry Gamez), 10-1; Sandys Jesse (Tanner Thedford), 12-1; Rex Hill (Ricky Ramirez), 4-1; AE-Jess Rueben James (Alejandro Medellin), 15-1; and AE-CB Special Version (Jaime Leos), 15-1.

The NMHBA Stakes has been run at Sunland Park every year since 1993; the race first earned graded status in 2001. Past winners include Namehimastreaker ('97) and Blazin N Shakin ('08).

The New Mexico Racing Commission has approved the stakes schedule for Zia Park in Hobbs, which opens its 56-day meet on September 7. Nearly $4 million in stakes purse money will be up for grabs for both Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses at Zia Park. The most noteworthy addition to the stakes schedule is the 1 1/16-mile, $300,000 Zia Park Oaks for 3-year-old fillies, which will be run on November 23 and become the richest-ever Thoroughbred race for fillies or mares in New Mexico.
