Stakes Winners Thermal, Kiss My Hennessy Make Rio Grande Senor Futurity Final
RSS Feeds Sunday, July 15, 2012

Stakes winners Thermal and Kiss My Hennessy are among the 10 finalists to the July 29, $172,026 Rio Grande Senor Futurity (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-old colts and geldings at Ruidoso Downs.

A homebred gelding by the Forest Wildcat stallion Attila's Storm owned by R.D. Hubbard, Thermal scored a 1 1/4-length victory as the 3-10 favorite in the second of four trial races on Saturday. Duane Sterling rode Thermal for trainer Todd Fincher.

Thermal has earned $69,294 from four starts, and his three wins include the 5-furlong, $134,957 Mountain Top Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs on June 23.

Also trained by Fincher, Kiss My Hennessy has banked $91,847 for owners Scott Bryant and Joe Dee Brooks, who acquired the Roll Hennessy Roll gelding for $19,000 at last year's New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs. Kiss My Hennessy was sent to post as the 2-5 favorite in the fourth trial, and he responded with a one-length win under jockey Casey Lambert.

Kiss My Hennessy's two win in five outs include the colts and geldings division of the 4 1/2-furlong, $120,989 Copper Top Futurity (R) at Sunland Park on April 14. The gelding also ran second, 1 ¾ lengths behind Thermal, in the Mountain Top Futurity.
