SunRay Park in Farmington, New Mexico, has released its 2011 stakes schedule and the first condition book of its 48-day meet, which opens April 23.
SunRay has scheduled 23 stakes – 12 for Thoroughbreds and 11 for Quarter Horses – worth more than $1.6 million in purses. A total of 12 of the track's stakes are for registered New Mexico-breds, with these restricted races split equally between the two breeds.
SunRay's richest Thoroughbred races are the one-mile, $110,000-guaranteed Jack Cole Handicap (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds and older on May 7, and the 1 1/8-mile, $100,000-guaranteed San Juan County Commissioners Handicap for 3-year-olds and older on closing day, July 12.
In addition, four of SunRay Park's Quarter Horse stakes are graded: the 350-yard, $85,000-added New Mexico Breeders' Futurity (RG2) for state-bred 2-year-olds on June 5; the 400-yard, $85,000-guaranteed New Mexico Breeders' Stakes (RG2) for state-bred 3-year-olds on June 11; the 400-yard, $50,000-guaranteed La Plata Stakes (G2) for 3-year-olds and older on June 12; and the 400-yard, $85,000-guaranteed Tommy “Duke” Smith Stakes (RG2) for state-bred 3-year-olds & older on July 3.
SunRay Park will present live racing on a Saturday-Tuesday schedule, with post time for the first race set for 1 p.m. (MST).
