RSS Feeds Friday, August 11, 2017
A total of 20 New Mexico-bred 2-year-old fillies has been entered in Saturday’s 5 1/2-furlong Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) trials at Ruidoso Downs.

Trainer Todd Fincher will send out two recent winners, Comics Cashway and Hennessy Express, in the first of two trials. A homebred daughter of the Unbridled stallion Comic Genius owned by Helen Nave of Hobbs, New Mexico, Comics Cashway made her debut with a clear four-length victory in the 4 1/2-furlong, $45,000 C.O. “Ken” Kendrick Memorial Stakes (R) at SunRay Park on May 15.

Comics Cashway is one of two winners from as many starters produced by Swapping Lanes, an unraced daughter of The Way Home and a half sister to 2010 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity winner Comicsperfect Storm. The filly drew post 7 and will be ridden by Tracy Hebert.

Hennessy Express is a homebred Roll Hennessy Roll filly owned by Dale Taylor. Hennessy Express will be stretching out in distance off of her 2 1/2-length victory as the 1-10 favorite in a 5-furlong maiden-special-weight sprint for New Mexico-breds at Ruidoso Downs on July 14.

Hennessy Express is one of four winners from as many starters foaled by Accomodate, an unraced 9-year-old daughter of Pleasantly Perfect, and she is a half sister to the multiple stakes-placed geldings Hit A Lick and Storming Back. The filly drew post 5 and will be ridden by Roimes Chirinos.

Orogrande, a homebred daughter of Quinton’s Gold trained by Dallas Barton for owners W.D. Carson Sr., M.H. Carson, and Leach Racing Inc., drew the rail and will be ridden by Frank Reyes in the first heat. The chestnut filly made her debut with a third-place finish, 5 1/2 lengths behind Comics Cashway, in the Kendrick Memorial, and she is a full sister to four-time stakes winner and 2013 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity runner-up Lady Genius.

The second trial is headed by Mike G. Parker’s Ghost Of Creebear, a daughter of Dome who ran second, four lengths behind Comics Cashway, in the Kendrick Memorial. An earner of $15,128 from four outs, Ghost Of Creebear is the first starter produced by Garretsghostlygirl, an 8-year-old Ghostly Moves mare who won the 2012 La Senora Stakes (R) at Sunland Park.

Ghost Of Creebar drew post 8 and will be ridden by Tracy Hebert for trainer Larry Chavez.

Domes Gallop Girl, a $1,500 yearling buy at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, drew post 4 and will be ridden by Victor Escobar for owner Jeff Caron and trainer Jimmy Guerra Jr. A dark bay or brown daughter of Dome, the filly made her debut with a neck victory at odds of 8-1 in a 5-furlong maiden-special-weight dash for state-breds at Ruidoso on July 29.

Domes Gallop Girl is out of Victory Girl, a winning daughter of Victory Gallop, and she is a half sister to ’09 La Senora Stakes (R) winner Excessive Victory.

The five top finishers from each trial will meet in the September 3, $175,000-est. Rio Grande Senorita Futurity final.
