Visible Injun Posts Fastest NM Breeders' Derby Trial Time

Verona Vaughn's Visible Injun is the fastest qualifier to the September 25, $50,000-added New Mexico State Fair Breeders' Derby (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Sent to post at odds of 13-1 in the second of two trials on Saturday, Visible Injun defeated third-fastest qualifier Wilmon by 1 ¾ lengths while going 400 yards in :19.323. The homebred colt by the Easily Smashed stallion Invisible Injun was ridden by Macario Rodriguez for trainer Lonnie Vaughn.

Second-fastest qualifier Pakea Bay won the first heat by a half of a length from fourth-fastest qualifier Chets Famous Secret. A finalist in the July 31 Zia Derby (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs, the gray Brookstone Bay gelding has won three of his nine starts for his owners, David Barrett and Sue H. May.

Pakea Bay's trainer, Fred Danley, qualified three finalists, including Wilmon and fifth-fastest qualifier Habit Rabbit.
