Weather Warning, a stakes-winning 2004 foal by Storm Cat, will stand the '11 breeding season at Brunacini Farms at Belen, New Mexico.
Racing in five different states and provinces from 2006-07, Weather Warning earned $128,687 from 11 starts, and his three wins included the listed 1 1/8-mile, $100,000 Manitoba Lotteries Derby at Assiniboia Downs in '07. The stallion also ran third, a head behind winner Awesome Hero, in that season’s 6-furlong, $50,000 Hansel Stakes at Turfway Park in Kentucky.
Weather Warning is one of six winners from eight starters produced by City Band, a 16-year-old daughter of the Mr. Prospector stallion Carson City. From 1996-98, City Band banked $607,419 from six wins in 26 outs, and her stakes record included victories in the 1996 Oak Leaf Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita and Golden Rod Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs. She also ran second in that season’s $286,000 Hollywood Starlet Stakes (G1) at Hollywood Park.
Weather Warning’s half sister, the late Broad Brush filly Foolishly, won the 2003 Snow White Stakes at Charles Town, West Virginia.
Weather Warning’s second dam, the Mighty Appealing mare Wedding Band, won the 1989 Cameo Stakes at Laurel Racecourse in Maryland, and his fourth dam, Spinning Reel, was a winning daughter of the Hyperion (GB) stallion Alibhai who foaled three stakes winners in the late 1960s.
Weather Warning's first-year fee will be $2,000 for Thoroughbreds and $500 for Quarter Horses.
