Whathaveigottado Posts Fastest Sunland Winter Derby Trial Time

Whathaveigottado, a gray colt by Shazoom racing for Tony and Molly Doughtie, won the second of four Sunland Park Winter Derby (G2) trials on Saturday and posted the fastest qualifying time for the December 29, $50,000-added final.

Ridden by Jacky Martin for trainer Paul Jones, Whathaveigottado covered 400 yards in :18.996 while defeating third-fastest qualifier Urbanite by one length. The colt’s victory was his fourth in 15 starts, and it pushed his earnings to $74,567.

Whathaveigottado was bred in Oklahoma by David and Susan Mackie’s Mackie Racing LLC, and he is one of 439 winners from 638 starters sired by Shazoom, a 17-year-old stallion by Takin On The Cash and winner of the 1995 Speedhorse Sprint Futurity (RG3) at Trinity Meadows near Fort Worth, Texas. The stakes-placed colt is also one of 14 winners from 23 starters foaled by Strawberry Silk, a Grade 1-winning daughter of Beduino and the AQHA champion 2-year-old in 1989..

Second-fastest qualifier Corona For The Lady won the fourth trial by 1 ½ lengths from 10th-fastest qualifier Yeah Ima Leader. The bay gelding by Corona Cartel races for Carlos Quevedo from the barn of Miguel Silva.
