An unnamed Thoroughbred filly by Devon Lane was sold for $53,500 on Saturday, topping the two-day New Mexico-Bred Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs.

Avenue Of Flags, a Grade 2-placed stallion by 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, was euthanized following an accident in his paddock on May 14. He was 22. At the time of his death, Avenue Of Flags was standing at James Wasson’s Winner’s Circle Farm near Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he had been moved to for the 2010 breeding season.

Saddled by Felipe Quintero for Tremor Enterprises LLC, Mr Piloto covered 440 yards in :21.553 while defeating fastest qualifier and 2-1 favorite JLS Mr Bigtime. The $1-million winner’s share of the purse increased the sorrel colt’s earnings to $1,002,240, making him Quarter Horse racing’s 58th millionaire.
